Real First Name: Eric

Age: 21

How did you find Escaper: Wowprogress.com

Primary Language: English

Your Country / Time Zone: US/CST

Can You Be Online And Ready To Raid with 99% Attendance Monday – Thursday 6:15pm – 10:30pm PST?
Yes.

Do you have any factors that may cause you to go AFK during raids?
No. Unless there is an emergency but I do my best to make sure I am situated during raid time so I do not have to take any kind of AFK.

School / Work Schedule Due To Dramatically change in the foreseeable future?
No. My schedules are set and will not change for a long time.

Are you a transfer or a local? (xfers please list your realm)
Transfer from Gilneas.

Class / Character Name:
Rogue/ Ewose

Main Spec: (x/x/x) (include a link from http://www.wowhead.com of a raid spec if it differs from your current one)
I run what has become the new Mutilate spec 51/18/2. I have my secondary spec set up as an Anub combat build 18/51/2 but have had no need to use it even on anub with the changes to mutilate if adds are under control then I can maximize more dps to anub rather than the adds. But I am more than willing to run either spec on any fight and I am very knowledgeable of either spec.

POST YOUR Armory INFORMATION HERE: (Be sure to log out with your raiding gear on):
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Gilneas&cn=Ewose&gn=Sparda

Total Time Played (/played) and Time Played @ 80 (/played):
Total - 239 days 18 hours
At 80 - 64 days 20 hours

Is this Your First Main Character? If not, what did you used to play?
This has been the only character I have played and put serious time into at max lvl wheter that was 60, 70 or 80.

When did you start playing WoW? Have you played any other MMOs?
I started playing WOW around when AQ hit back in early 2006. Before I came to wow I was an avid Star wars Galaxies player where I grinded out the horrible holocron grind to become a jedi... but then they made jedi a starting class. So that was the end of SWG the moment SOE took over.

Willingness to adjust talents if asked?
I am more than willing. If it is for the betterment of the guild I am more than willing to change my spec, gimp my dps to see an overall raid gain.

What is your current Guild?
Sparda of Gilneas

What were the last 3 guilds you were in, and reasons for leaving:
Sparda: The current guild I am in, I am looking to leave because I am in search of being apart of a top guild that has every raid member performing at their maximum each and every attempt. In Sparda their is a lack of skill amongst the players and I am ready to find a place where I can show my true worth.

Vehemence of Blackrock: Lead this guild with a some friends on the server cleared all content pre Ulduar except 6 min malygos and a few Naxxaramas achievements. We started into Ulduar when it first came out and week one reached Mimiron but slowly the guild fell apart and I lost the officer core. This lead to the guild disbanding and me taking a short break from the game to get Real Life in order.

Eternity of Silver Hand: Was in this guild all throughout BC clearing all the content but M'uru and Kil'Jaeden. Was the melee officer in this guild and called breaths on Felmyst. Left when the guild fell apart at M'uru and took a break from the game until WOTLK.

Do you have someone in Escaper that will give you a good recommendation on your application?
Sadly I do not.

How you would like to benefit from being in Escaper; why did you choose Escaper?
From what I have read amongst your website and post on your forums I feel this is a guild that make full use of what I have to offer. I strive to be the best at my class and what I feel Escaper can do for me is fine tune the skills I have and make me an even more quality player. The guild is very appealing, from what I can tell the atmosphere is something that is very difficult to find and you have seem to have found the right way of going about keeping everyone in line and keeping everyone performing at a high level or you would not be where you are now.

How do you feel about playing a role off the bench? Can you be ready on short notice if called upon? (Even if there is an opening for your class, it does not guarantee you playtime.)
I do not mind sitting. There are plenty of fights where melee dps is weak and I do not expect a slot in every single raid. I will research each and every fight in and out so I know not only my role but the roles of others so I understand the mechanics of a fight so if something happens to go array I can help fix the situation with communication, using certain abilities and anything else to keep the attempt going strong. If I am called upon on short notice I will do my best to catch on to the fight in 1 attempt watching everyone to see what they are doing whether it's what is supposed to be done or what is not so I can learn from someone else rather than me making that mistake a second time.

Are you willing to spend 400 gold a night in repairs and consumables, stay focused and wipe for 4 hours straight, come back the next day and do it all over again until a new boss dies (or even a "farmed" boss)?
Yes. I have done this in many guilds. It is in a way the reason I play the game, the relief you get and the excitement you feel the moment the boss dies is why I play the game I love killing a new boss that has been a block for so long. I am willing to spend more then 400g and bring extra consumables and do whatever it takes to kill a boss no matter what the case is.

Can you maintain a high level of professionalism during raids AND on public forums?
Yes. I tend to not post on forums as is considering all it does is allow for people to troll. So in and outside of raids I would recognize that I carry the Escaper tag and would want other players on the server to feel that we are a class act. And that goes for the fellow guild members as well I want to be a class act not a joke not a "scrub" per say but someone who has a mature approach and raids at the highest level.

Do you have any PC or disconnect issues we should know about? If possible list your system’s specs. Who is your ISP?
ISP: Verizon Fios
Intel Core 2 Duo
4 gigs of memory
Nvidia 265 Graphics card
1tb hardrive.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/659789623.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

Can you use Vent? Do you have a Microphone and Headset?
Yes to all.

Short Essay: This portion of the app is here for you to provide your "personal touch" and demonstrate your ability to articulate and show us what you are worth. Show us what sets you apart from the rest of the candidates; what makes you better? What can you bring to Escaper? What do you want us to know that wasn’t covered?

Well where to start. I am a player who strives to be the best but realizes that that should never take priority over the guild. Each and every fight I do what I can to push my dps while keeping my raid awareness at full. I am a very observant player and I do put a lot of time into studying strategies and my own class. I can help with making adjustments on the fly but I do recognize that my place in the guild would be a new member and I would not try and step on any toes of the officers/ raid leaders. I do my best to look deep into my class to find the best way for me to min/max rather than what everyone else does. I trust EJ and other places but I tend to do whats best for me as a raider to maximize my potential. I am also a player who you can count on in any situation, whether that is interrupts, Tricks of the Trading a mob, exposing armor, and or anything else you can make use of from my class. I feel I am a loyal and trustworthy player I will never emo log because I have been called out, No matter what the case may be. I accept my mistakes and make sure that they don't make a repeat performance. I want to bring to Escaper hopefully something you guys have never had, I want to be the guy the guild talks about on the first few raids saying this guy is a really good player. I want to prove to the guild that I am a top quality player who knows his class in and out. Hopefully what I can bring to Escaper is something that makes the guild even better, I am not trying to be cocky but that is a goal I would have to make the guild better. No matter what it is it is always guild first, never me. I feel like I must add that if we do kill a boss that we have been working towards for a good deal of time and the encounter is very difficult I am one of the loudest people to celebrate a boss kill I am just enthusiastic and very emotional when it comes to raiding, not emotional like I burst into tears but pure enjoyment of what just happened and I cant hold back. I realize that is on a side note but it must be said, since it shows how determined I am to kill a boss and how much I enjoy raiding as a whole. I hope I impressed to say the least and thank you for your time reading over my application and hope that I may have the opportunity to be apart of Escaper but if not once again thank you and good luck.

Thanks for taking the time to app, on the surface all seems well enough to go ahead and start this process:

What I want to make clear is this - I have ZERO use for a bone-headed melee class who can't see past his DPS rotation. I need melee dps who can:

1. Know the fights – Know the Adds in a Fight – And know how to change targets if needed. OR STOP DPS ALTOGETHER ON A DIME!!!!!

2. Know how to use Utility Abilities – and also be active in the group composition – in other words – ask if you need to expose or wound poison if it isn’t already abundantly clear it your job.

3. Be VOCAL in vent. If you are given an important job you need to COMMUNICATE with the raid & your partner to ensure nothing is missed. If we don’t hear you, you aren’t coming to a raid.

4. Have excellent situational awareness – you dead means you useless.

5. Step up to do Bitch-Jobs like CC’ing adds, or tanking your dps to make sure a cast does not get off – whatever is required of the fight.

6. And lastly do your best DPS while doing all of the above.

Currently we have 2 rogues – 1 raider and 1 recruit. We run double ICC 25s and I think we did about 8 ICC 10 mans this last week. The Hardmode roster is not chosen – and quite frankly probably will change heavily from fight to fight so saying you would be the 3rd rogue means very little as we may need 3 rogues or no rogues – depends on what the fights want. In the event everything is nice and balanced – rotations are made between people of equal play.

Escaper is not a rating chasing guild – high rating is generally a by-product of our regular play.

I will assist Raiid by recycling some of his questions from another app:

Which spec currently outputs highest dps?

What is the current stat weighting for your spec/gear for a rogue?

What are the current stat caps for you specifically with your current spec/gear?

Are there any rotations you follow to max your dps?

Are you able to play combat if needed?

Why would we need you to spec combat vs mutilate?

Everything you posted above I completely understand, and I feel you would not be disappointed, I am a confident raider but not a cocky, tunnel visioned, elitest who will just be a problem in raids.

I will assist Raiid by recycling some of his questions from another app:

Which spec currently outputs highest dps?
On a single target, Mutilate is by far the top class by a rather significant margin. But depending on the fight Combat does have its utilities with cooldowns and large AOE in bursts if needed.

What is the current stat weighting for your spec/gear for a rogue?
As of right now for Mutilate, Expertise weights the highest untill capped at 26 or 216 rating, and with the recent changes to deadly poison the value of Haste has increasingly gone, reaching certain levels of haste will allow a mutilate rogue to have his IP surpass his white damage on a boss fight. And also White Hit has gone up but I will answer that in the next question.

For combat you need to look into different stats such as the value of Armor Pen is a necessity in combat. Using trinkets to help you reach the cap on this will show an increase in dps. Running a Hack and Slash build allows to not have to worry about the crit cap as much so the value of white hit may not be as high which means you will use agility and or AP until you reach the point of catching the cap with trinkets popping. Haste has also gone up for combat just the same as it did for mutilate but the value is not as high since the damage done with poisons is much higher as a mutilate rouge then as a combat rogue.

What are the current stat caps for you specifically with your current spec/gear?
To start like I said before the expertise cap is the highest in weight for stats for a mutilate rogue. Getting into the value of White Hit, what a mutilate rogue will soon have to realize is with talents and other things we are pushing the crit cap and it is incredibly to ride the cap as hard as we can but not push over and the only way to raise the cap is with adding Hit Rating. Especially with Mongoose catching Beserking as a weapon enchant they are incredibly close this will lower the value of haste a touch since we will get attack speed from the proc but also the agility that procs will push us closer to that crit cap giving more value to hit.
So mix of gemming Expertise untill cappped, AP, AP/haste, and AP/hit or even Expertise/Hit is what you will more than likely see from a mutilate rogue.

As combat the Armor Pen cap is crucial to be around and is a great cap to hit to increase your dps. Expertise does not weight as high but is still worth capping if possible but only if it works with capping Armor Pen.

Are there any rotations you follow to max your dps?
For a set rotation it is mainly about not capping out energy but maximizing the envenom buff up time. So once I have SnD and Hunger for blood rolling watching the timers of my buffs to maximize trinket procs, cooldowns and certain encounters of a boss, I will pool the energy if the envenom has more than 2s left on it when I have 4 to 5 combo points waiting. I will re-envenom with .1 to 1s left on envenom to do my best to keep the buff up as long as possible. But in certain situations such as Bloodlust and trinket procs and other things I could see a high energy return rate from focused attacks so keeping an eye on my energy pool will allow me to possibly envenom before the 2s mark so I do not waste energy.

As for combat I have yet to have the opportunity to test it since the introduction of 3.3. But from what I used to do would be, 3 combo points to a Slice and Dice then 5 to an Eviscerate. Rinse and Repeat using cooldowns at appropriate times to not 1 get myself killed or 2 pull aggro.

Are you able to play combat if needed?
Yes my gear isn't as good for combat but I do understand the spec and know how to play it if needed.

Why would we need you to spec combat vs mutilate?
Well there are multiple reason, If one rogue is needed to apply Wound it is best for the Combat rouge to do so. So in the even I would need to go combat and say the boss heals at a certain point I would switch to Wound knowing my dps would go down but it would ensure that the boss does not heal for the maximum amount. But the bigger issue of having a combat rogue is the 4% physical damage debuff applied to the boss. This buff can not be outweighed in any form because it buffs so many different members in the raid that it will always be a overall dps gain for the raid to have a combat rogue, unless you have an exceptional Arms warrior who puts out incredible numbers you will want to stick with a combat rogue. Also say the encounter requires a large amount of AOE then this could be another reason for being combat since with cooldowns and FOK we can supply a large amount of AOE damage in bursts.

Overall your answers are good and your theory is sound. For bonus points could you elaborate a bit on the crit cap how it is calculated and what is the difference between boss mobs vs normal mobs? Also can you give me the rating cap for armor pen?

What does your combat set look like? I know you said isnt as good but could you elaborate? Ideally id like to give our current combat rogue a chance to spec mut for fun just want to get a feeling for how versitle you can be not really a necessity.

I will wait for Raiid to chime in before extending a trail, but things appear to be heading in that direction.

The crit cap = 100% - 24% for glancing blows - X% for dodge - X% on the chance to miss. This is set to a raid boss. We do not worry about reaching the crit cap on a normal mob since killing trash isn't progression haha but I understand why you asked. The difference between a normal raid boss is the differences in level whether they are a "Boss" or level 83 elite then all that changes is the chance to hit and dodge so they would be lower or higher in either case. We do our best to set up to the point where we stay under the cap on everything including Mutilate since we get 15% from talents but that is a number that is hard to stay under considering our gear is constantly upgrading which raises our crit for the most part making the cap easily met. So if we can lessen the chance for us to miss then we will have a higher crit cap so we can maximize our stats in every form.

For the armor pen cap it is 1400 armor pen rating. So the goal is for combat is to either allow a trinket to carry you to the cap our stack as much as you can to get as close to the hard cap as possible. But with the new gear hard cap is technically reachable but this is using trinkets like Deathbringers Will this is a trinket that can give you Armor pen, ATP, Agility. So issues there are you get 800 armor pen and allow the trinket to 1/3 of the time to carry you to the cap. But bringing back into the picture is the crit cap when the agility procs in full raid buffs you have to be aware of how close your getting to this cap.

As far as my combat set goes it is mainly 245 ilvl pieces with 245 MH 258 OH and a few other 258 pieces, I would end up using the majority of my Mutilate gear for it with a few pieces switched here and there. I do not have the armor pen to do incredibly well with it but if what your saying is to let him go mutilate on some fights that works for me I do not mind switching up my spec. I do know the rotation well and I feel I could play combat at a high level if I had the gear but I have been gearing for mutilate since Naxx so I have been mainly picking stuff up after other combat rogues.

Actually the cap is different for boss level mobs than it is against normal mobs because of crit depression. EJ testing showed that no matter how high your crit percentage was you would always have 4.8% of white attacks as hits against a boss level mob. So the cap for those mobs is 95.20% - 24% glance - x% dodge - x% miss.

Well then I didn't read that that makes things a bit more interesting, lower the crit value even further. Which could ultimately change what I may have considered "BIS". Thanks.

Picked up a fair share of upgrades tonight. So gear has changed a slight bit. Combat set is better than before still behind mutilate by a significant margin. But I will say it is not horrible so it is still raid viable. Getting to test the proc dagger, it's not too bad but I am unsure could be better then my 245 dagger but will have to run more tests and read up a bit more on it. Hope the updates help. Thanks again.

Let us know when a good time to talk on vent would be - either Wed or Thurs at 6p server as we are pretty much on vacation from raiding atm we don't have many options until next week.
